Artist Statement:
My work observes a change that has happened in my personality over the years, from when I was a child, to now as a teenager. When I was younger, I had a bright and bubbly personality, but as I grew up, I changed to become a much more negative person that had to push through the anxiety I deal with daily as a student.
For my choice of media, I opted for a combination of media I was familiar with, and media that was new to me, yet visually appealing, such as embroidery. In this process of exploration, I realised that this balance of familiar and unfamiliar seemed to parallel the contrast between the personality I was used to, and the emotions I was still learning to handle.
An aspect I enjoy about my piece is the underlying message I want to show. Both the joy and struggle of my life are woven together in this piece to imply that life includes both ups and downs. The piece serves as a reminder that even if life may have moments that are difficult to get through, everyone goes through hardships as well. I hope that as you view my work, you know you are never the only one struggling.
