Artist Statement:

Looking towards the future is a large source of my anxiety. We’re constantly reminded that our current actions shape our future. Despite knowing that there's no point in worrying about the future, I'm stuck in a loop of fear thinking about what may happen, and thus inevitably, doing nothing in the present.

I wish I could freeze time; take a moment to regroup my thoughts and energy when it feels like too much. Amongst the foliage of the tree, a crystal is held, as if to capture an element so liberal and freeing. I chose these contrasting elements to represent my difficulties with time passing, the unpredictable nature of life, and the sense of control I wish to feel in moments of chaos.

I am laying back on the tree, trying to embrace my struggle. I am taking control of something that usually holds me at gunpoint. I hope this could serve as a reminder to myself to capture the important moments of my life, and accept them for what they are.

Everything will come and go, and each part of that process is important no matter how ugly or beautiful it is.
